Norman Rockwell (1894 to 1978) Barbershop Quartet, study illustration for The Saturday Evening Post cover, September 26, 1936. Pencil signed monolithograph, edition A/P XX/XXXV.

This is a limited edition 30" x 24" print. 295 prints of this kind were produced. A set of 200 were numbered; another set of 35 were numbered with Roman numerals. A set of 60 were unnumbered. All of the prints produced were signed in graphite by Norman Rockwell.

Though best known for his painted magazine covers and illustrations for stories, books, and advertisements, Norman Rockwell was also a masterful draftsman who utilized drawing as an essential underpinning of his art. Rockwell's drawing process made it possible for him to envision every aspect of a final work before it was begun. Rockwell rarely began a painting at the oil-on-canvas stage. By the time a canvas was on his easel, he would have completed several stages of preparation, including the creation of sketches and at least one highly detailed tonal drawing to be traced onto canvas.

The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell print is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the object. Payment plans are available. All signed artwork purchases contribute directly to the Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell.
