Norman Rockwell (1894 to 1978) The Discovery/Boy Discovering Santa Suit Cover Illustration for The Saturday Evening Post ( December 29, 1956) Media print lithograph on paper.

This limited edition collotype print measures 28 X 24 inches and is a depiction of a boy discovering a Santa Suit. This print is hand signed in permanent marker by Norman Rockwell. This print is very detailed with vibrant color and in excellent condition. For its Christmas covers, The Saturday Evening Post often favored one of "three types of holiday symbolism: Santas; Olde English scenes with literary overtones: and post costumes that were neo-medieval or even religious flavor." With this in mind, it is not surprising that Rockwell's December 29, 1956 cover The Discovery, was not his most popular. "People don't enjoy pictures of child's disillusionment with Christmas." Rockwell said. I thought we could get around this by publishing the cover in August. But the editors decided to publish it in December.

The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell print is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complementary one-year Museum Family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print. Payment plans are available. All limited edition print purchases contribute directly to the Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell.
