Details
Norman Rockwell, New Puppies from the Boy and Dog: Four Seasons portfolio.
Originally produced for the 1958 Brown & Bigelow Four Seasons calendar, this twelve-color lithograph, measuring 20 by 21-1/3 inches, is one of four lithographs in a specially designed portfolio, hand proofed and printed at Atelier Ettinger in 1975. The edition consists of 320 impressions on papier d'Arches. 200 were numbered and 60 artist proofs were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. An additional 35 impressions, pencil signed and designated with roman numerals, were reserved for the artist. 25 deluxe signed artist proofs were printed on Inomachi Nacre (Japon) paper.
New Puppies is an example of Rockwell's fondness for small tender moments. "I know now that all I need in my work is at hand," he said. "The commonplaces of America are to me the richest subjects in art. Boys batting flies on vacant lots; little girls playing jacks on the front steps; old men plodding home at twilight, umbrellas in hand all of these things arouse feeling in me."
The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell print is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print. Payment plans available. All artist proof purchases contribute directly to the Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell.
