Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) County Agricultural Agent, 1948 Story illustration for The Saturday Evening Post (July 24, 1948) Media print lithography on paper

Originally created for the July 24, 1948 edition of The Saturday Evening Post, County Agricultural Agent was hand proofed and printed by Circle Gallery. This full color collotype measures 24 by 35 inches, and the edition consists of 295 impressions. 200 were numbered and 60 artist proofs were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. An additional 35 impressions were pencil signed and designated with Roman numerals.

Norman Rockwell published over 300 original covers for the Saturday Evening Post from 1916 to 1963. He painted small town scenes and idyllic portraits for the Post, illustrating everyday life in America. County Agricultural Agent has captured a rural scene where an agricultural agent comes to a farm to advise a family with their livestock and agricultural processes. Rockwell once said, "Without thinking too much about it in specific terms, I was showing the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed. My fundamental purpose is to interpret the typical American. I am a story teller." This title illustrates exactly those qualities of American life: an idyllic scene in which the simple, unglamorous moments are appreciated and glorified.

The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell prints is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print. Payment plans are available. All hand signed reproduction print purchases contribute directly to the Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell.
