Originally created as a series of illustrations for the 1948 Four Seasons calendar by Brown and Bigelow. This portfolio includes Gramps and Me Ice Skating, Fishing, Raking Leaves, and Picking Daisies. Offered as a complete portfolio, each print measures 8 x 10 inches and is personally signed by Rockwell in permanent ink in the lower left.
This Brown and Bigelow calendar aimed "to convey something of feeling of the seasons by the poses." The variety of poses used for the old men and dog allowed Rockwell to achieve specific moods. When describing the piece Rockwell wrote that "These four drawings, done in Wolf crayon, are from a 1948 calendar which is something of an innovation in that each of them will be surrounded by an ornamental border. For example, 'Winter' will have a design of snowflakes around it. This treatment should create an esthetic completeness which many calendars lack.
