This is a limited edition print. This particular print is part of a folio titled "The American Family." A total of 295 prints of this kind were produced. A set of 200 were numbered. Another set of 35 were A/P's numbered with Roman numerals. A set of 60 were unnumbered. All of the prints made were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell.
Rockwell's 80 pencil drawings done for Massachusetts Life Insurance Company first appeared in a series of national consumer advertisements sponsored by the Company during the 1950s and early 1960s. Because Rockwell presented an essentially idealistic view of American life, his appeal has remained consistent throughout the years. This appeal seems to be derived from the familiar believable traits of each of the artist's characters and nostalgic mood of their settings. In Rockwell's own words, "Without thinking too much about it in specific terms, I was showing the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed."
The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell print is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print.
