    Details
    Rowers signed artist proof by M. Robert Cunningham (1924-2010. Print measures 21" x 26" inches, image 15" x 20".

A prolific freelance illustrator from the mid to late twentieth century, Robert Cunningham created imagery for many notable clients, including Sports Illustrated, GE, Mobil, AT&T, ABC, The Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Panasonic, and Chevrolet. His illustrations for the 1980 Olympics were commissioned by the United States Postal Service, bright spots commemorating the Games' summer and winter events.

A master of light, Cunningham was best known for embracing the aesthetic of color field abstraction- reducing insignificant details from his art, instead favoring dynamic, streamlined compositions. Cunningham's unique style using simple shapes, light, and bold, often primary colors, earned him numerous awards including induction into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1998.

Norman Rockwell Museum holds a significant collection of Cunningham's original art, as well as reference and candid photographs, tearsheets, and other materials relating to his prodigious career.

All signed artwork purchases contribute directly to Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell and other distinguished illustrators. Please contact us for more information at 413.931.2237 or 800.742.9450. Or Email: MDuffy@nrm.org
