Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) Dreamboats, 1938 Cover illustration for The Saturday Evening Post (February 19, 1938) Media print lithography on paper

An eleven-color lithograph hand proofed and printed in 1976, Dreamboats measures 24 by 29-3/4 inches. The edition consists of 320 impressions on papier d'Arches. 200 were numbered and 60 were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. An additional 35 impressions pencil signed and designated with roman numerals were reserved for Rockwell. 25 deluxe proofs were printed on Inomachi Nacre (Japon) paper.

Rockwell's Dreamboats illustrates two young women gushing over their favorite movie stars before bed. The dormitory rules regulate bedtime hours; however, that does not stop the girls from day dreaming of someday meeting the handsome stars. Dreamboats depicts a common scene as images of movie stars appeared in magazines and newspapers, allowing individuals to escape into fantasy worlds by imagining what it would be like to lead a glamorous lifestyle.

The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell prints is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print.
