Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) Top Hat & Tails, 1923 Media print lithography on paper Originally created by Norman Rockwell in 1923, Top Hat & Tails was hand proofed and printed by Atelier Ettinger. This full color lithograph measures 34 by 28 inches and the edition consists of 295 impressions. 200 were numbered and 60 were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. An additional 35 were designated with Roman numerals and pencil signed by Norman Rockwell.

This title depicts a boy trying on an elegant suit in an old crowded attic. He is admiring his dapper reflection as his canine companion looks at him quizzically. Norman Rockwell loved to add dogs to his paintings. He once said, "If a picture wasn't going very well I'd put a puppy dog in it, always a mongrel, you know, never one of the full bred puppies." This title illustrates an iconic childhood moment when a boy suddenly wants to look like a gentleman.

The purchase of any limited edition Norman Rockwell prints is accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate signed by our Museum Director, a complimentary one-year Museum family membership, and care and handling instructions for the print. Payment plans are available. All hand signed reproduction print purchases contribute directly to the Norman Rockwell Museum to preserve and present the art and legacy of Norman Rockwell.
