A total of 295 prints of this kind were produced. A set of 200 were numbered. Another set of 35 were A\/P's numbered with Roman numerals. A set of 60 were unnumbered. All of the prints made were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOriginally created for the June 11, 1955 \u003cem\u003eSaturday Evening Post\u003c\/em\u003e cover, \u003cem\u003eMarriage License\u003c\/em\u003e was set in the town clerk's office just footsteps away from Rockwell's first Stockbridge studio on Main Street, \u003cem\u003eMarriage License\u003c\/em\u003e captures Rockwell's fascination with the somber wood-paneled interiors of his favorite seventeenth-century Dutch painters. Indeed, the building itself is fashioned after one pictured in Jan Vermeer's \u003cem\u003eA Street in Delft.\u003c\/em\u003e In keeping with the older style, Rockwell replaced an existing metal file cabinet in the left foreground with an old railroad station stove.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWithin the historic interior, Rockwell contrasts the old man's experience with the young couple's eagerness.
