  1. Powerhouse image
I thought Rockwell the artist only spoke for middle class white America, an Eisenhower Republican who gave a reassuring image of self-satisfied decency to the conservative tastes of those far removed from the tumult of those who have fought for necessary change. This is a powerful and memorable image, fashioned after the famous 1963 Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of June 4 (1962) “Aid From The Padre,” showing Navy chaplain Luis Padilla giving the last rites to a soldier wounded by sniper fire during a revolt in Venezuela.
