The revered instructor explains anatomy in nontechnical terms, discussing movement, light and shade, proportion, movable masses, and more. Nearly 500 illustrations cover every principle and point of instruction. Part of the Dover Anatomy for Artists series.

At the Art Student's League, Norman Rockwell enrolled in a class taught by the League's most prestigious teacher, George Bridgman. A taskmaster, Bridgman corrected student work on top of their own by redrawing a figure's central axis, action lines, and proportions to emphasize and clarify his points. "Occasionally," Rockwell wrote, "Mr. Bridgman would sketch the head, a muscle, the pelvis, on the side of my drawing to show me what he meant. I treasured those little sketches…"

Paperback, 192 pages. Recommended ages 22 and up.

From the exhibition Norman Rockwell Drawings, 1914-1976 September 10, 2022 through January 7, 2023 at Norman Rockwell Museum.
